Oh No I Got A Disease
The disease is being 20 years old.
We called a lady yesterday, and she was really upset with us for inviting her to church and to read the Book of Mormon so much. She was very upset we were "pushing her way too hard and way too much out of her comfort zone." Also, she really liked the last missionaries because they "didn't invite me to read this book or come to church; they just prayed and shared messages about Jesus."
Look, if someone doesn't push you, lady, they don't love you. True love comes from someone who is willing to make you a better person. If they don't make you a better person, then they don't love you. It's a simple formula. Why do you think the gospel of Jesus Christ is so hard to live?
I mean, it's not easy to come to church, to have faith in something, to repent and change from bad habits every day. It's very uncomfortable, very uncomfortable, to be baptized (and take the sacrament weekly). It's not easy, and the hardest part is to endure to the end, to be able to do this over and over and over again. It's not easy, but Jesus invites us to come follow him, be his disciple, and be better every day. And if we're not willing to do that, do we love him? And if we don't love the one who created us with our heart, might, mind, and soul, then why are we here? Truthfully, what are we doing with our life? We truthfully need to be uncomfortable to grow. "If ye love me, keep my commandments." So we shall. We will do it because we love you and we're selfless enough to stop worrying about the more fun things or the easier route. But we should follow him with all our heart, might, mind, and soul.
To that lady that was teaching, I'm not sorry I pushed you. I love you, and that's the truth of it all. The only way to true happiness is to change and have a change of heart. I will dare to be a missionary and a disciple of Christ. I will always love my neighbor enough to push her to growth and change.
"The second you walk out the door, stop worrying about yourself and think about others." The gospel of Jesus Christ and my mission come down to one thing that I feel like I've always learned: Christlike attributes. These attributes will get us into heaven. I feel like if I picked one word to be an attribute I want to obtain, and I feel like I've always seen, it is humility and being humble. The word I like to focus on to achieve this is selflessness. The humble person isn't worried about himself; he's being so worried about others that he lost himself, and that's humility. He's worried so much because of the charity in his heart. Let us all be like the examples in our life that are selfless.
"One cannot have adequate faith in a Christ whom he does not adequately know." - Neil A. Maxwell
Read his example, come follow me, and be like me is what I think it should be and was. Learn to become like me: humble, faithful, diligent, obedient, meek, longsuffering, patient, charitable, and the list goes on.
More important than what we do or say is who we are and who we are becoming.
Yea, come unto Christ and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness. And if you shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness and love God with all your might, mind, and strength, then his grace is sufficient for you, that by his grace, you may be perfect in Christ. And if, by the grace of God, you are perfect in Christ, you cannot in any way deny the power of God.
Let us take Moroni's promise and become Christlike.
And selfless. :)
I love you all; I will see you next week. ;)
